A native of Staten Island, New York, Robert F. Tyson Jr. is a Co-Founder and Consultant for Apex Defense Consulting (ADC), where he helps defense attorneys, insurance professionals, and corporations stop Nuclear Verdicts® through data-driven education, collaboration, and consulting. In addition to his leadership at ADC, Mr. Tyson is a Founding Partner of national insurance defense trial law firm Tyson & Mendes, where he continues to shape the future of defense litigation. His career includes landmark victories such as Howell v. Hamilton Meats, which changed California law and saved billions for insurers and defendants. He is also the Chief Business Development Officer at Schaefer City Technologies, an Insurtech company which leverages AI to identify Nuclear Verdicts® lurking in claims files before they happen.

Patrick Mendes is a Co-Founder and Consultant for Apex Defense Consulting (ADC), where he focuses on helping defense teams nationwide integrate The Apex into their strategy through meaningful partnership and training. With decades of experience guiding insurers and corporations through complex cases, Mr. Mendes brings a pragmatic and relational approach to his consulting work — bridging the gap between carrier and counsel with unparalleled expertise and insight into the business of insurance defense. 

At ADC, Mr. Mendes steers vision and collaboration to help attorneys and carriers to diagnose the cause of Nuclear Verdicts® and leverage proven strategies to stop them at every stage of prelitigation, litigation, and trial. His ability to distill complex litigation challenges into actionable defense strategies makes him a trusted advisor to legal and insurance leaders seeking measurable results in high-stakes environments.

In addition to his work at ADC, Mr. Mendes is a Founding Partner of national insurance defense trial law firm Tyson & Mendes and serves as the Chief Legal Strategy Officer for Schaefer City Technologies, a pioneering Insurtech company leveraging AI to identify and stop Nuclear Verdicts® before they happen. His experience defending businesses, design professionals, and insurers forms the foundation of his consulting practice, helping others achieve the same results through disciplined, evidence-based methods.

Cayce E. Lynch is a Co-Founder and Consultant for Apex Defense Consulting (ADC) and a co-author of Nuclear Verdicts®: The Apex – Break the Pattern alongside Robert F. Tyson Jr. Through her leadership at ADC, Ms. Lynch develops and delivers unparalleled education and training designed to equip defense attorneys and insurance professionals with the tools, training, and insights to stop runaway jury verdicts using The Apex — a proven, data-backed strategy for defusing the number one cause of nuclear results: anger. 

Ms. Lynch’s consulting philosophy centers on collaboration. She works closely with both lawyers and claims professionals to help them understand the emotional underpinnings of Nuclear Verdicts® and reframe their approach to prevent these disproportionate awards. Known for her engaging delivery and practical insights, she has become a sought-after speaker and educator in the defense community.

Ms. Lynch also serves as National Managing Partner of national insurance defense trial law firm Tyson & Mendes, where she oversees firmwide strategy, innovation, and talent development. Her leadership has transformed Tyson & Mendes into one of the fastest-growing defense firms in the country, with a national reputation for defending justice through education and innovation. Ashley Paige Fetyko is a Co-Founder and Consultant for Apex Defense Consulting (ADC) and one of the chief architects behind The Apex, a trial-tested and data-backed blueprint designed to stop runaway verdicts by addressing the root cause: anger. A seasoned trial attorney, strategist, and educator, Ms. Fetyko led the research and analysis of 100 Nuclear Verdicts® for the new book, Nuclear Verdicts®: The Apex – Break the Pattern.

At ADC, Ms. Fetyko develops and delivers educational and community programming and crafts consulting initiatives in response to industry and client need. She leverages her deep understanding of trial advocacy and the power of jury psychology to help carriers, risk pools, counsel, and trial teams apply The Apex to their cases – and win. Through custom workshops and collaborative sessions, she guides defense professionals in implementing The Apex to improve communication, deliver on empathy, and achieve fair outcomes for all. 

Ms. Fetyko also serves as Partner and Head of Growth & Client Engagement at national insurance defense trial law firm Tyson & Mendes, where she continues to advance education and innovation within the defense community. Leveraging both her experience serving as first chair in over 90 jury trials as well as her communications expertise, Ms. Fetyko delivers impactful, entertaining, and invigorating speeches and training across the country.

Mina Miserlis is a Co-Founder of Apex Defense Consulting (ADC) and one of the nation’s most respected trial strategists. With more than 25 years of experience in complex civil litigation and countless trials across California, Mina specializes in translating The Apex into practical trial applications that resonate with juries and lead to just results. 

At ADC, Mina consults with trial teams and insurance professionals nationwide to identify risks that contribute to Nuclear Verdicts® and to design defense strategies grounded in data and emotional intelligence. Her expertise lies in helping carriers and counsel reframe their cases through the Apex lens — emphasizing responsibility, reasonableness, and common sense to defuse anger proactively before it takes hold. Whether through postmortem analyses, trial strategy development, settlement planning, or surgically precise consulting services, Ms. Miserlis is reshaping how defense teams prepare, and how the industry approaches trial. 

In addition to her role at ADC, Ms. Miserlis serves as Chair of Complex Trials at national insurance defense trial law firm Tyson & Mendes, where she leads a national team of trial lawyers and continues to develop and refine the firm’s defense strategies. Her influence extends beyond the courtroom, as she provides post-verdict consulting and national training on effective communication, jury dynamics, and high-stakes case management.
